Pathways to Writing
A K-5 Modeled and Shared Writing Program
Pathways to Writing offers engaging resources to support students in writing and help teachers model and explicitly demonstrate the steps of the writing process. The program for Grades K–3 includes large trifold poster kits (12 per grade) with full-color text passages and writing process organizers. Grades 4–5 provide these resources as charts on a CD-ROM with printable resources and files for interactive whiteboard or LCD projector. Detailed modeled and shared writing lesson plans have a two-part instructional sequence. Part 1 uses modeled and shared writing to demonstrate, teach, and practice a single stage in the writing process while focusing on a specific text type. In Part 2, students and teachers share in the creation of a piece of text in the same text type from prewriting through publishing. Other materials include a program guidebook, task cards for independent writing, and full-color classroom pointers posters.
