Modeled and Shared Writing: Critical Strategies for Teaching the Writing Process
Modeled and shared writing are essential strategies for teaching writing. In modeled writing, teachers provide students with a model of what good writers do. Teachers often begin by reviewing a text model, then write their own brief model of the lesson’s teaching focus to show students the thought process behind constructing a meaningful text. In shared writing, teachers and students collaborate to compose a piece of text, giving students many opportunities for practice as they prepare for the goal of independent writing.
