Modeled and Shared Writing: Critical Strategies for Teaching the Writing Process
Modeled and shared writing are essential strategies for teaching process writing. In modeled writing, teachers provide students with a model of what good writers do. Teachers often begin by reviewing a text model, then write their own brief model of the lessonís teaching focus to show students the thought process behind constructing a meaningful text. In shared writing, teachers and students collaborate to compose a piece of text, giving students many opportunities for practice as they prepare for the goal of independent writing. Mondo offers Pathways to Writing, a K-5 modeled and shared writing program that can be used to supplement another writing program or to complement the reading of specific text types.
